CONTROLOGY: THE PILATES METHOD
In the 1930’s, Joseph Pilates developed a series of exercises on the Mat and other equipment he invented. Pilates called his method Contrology(from control and Greek -λογία, -logia), because he believed that his method used the mind to control the muscles. The Pilates method seeks to increase the strength, flexibility and control of the body.
As our understanding of the Body, Mind and its connection Spirit increases, classical Pilates still holds its ground and has bloomed into a place where many Contemporary Pilates approaches integrate advances in science, physical therapy, and physical medicine. The Pilates “powerhouse” stabilizes the alignment of our vital energy centers along the the spine which brings life and vitality as stability, movement, and energy are allowed to flow freely and a balanced way.
